My heart is so sad. 51 lives. Human lives. Beloved children of God lives. Created in the image of God lives. And we have to include the human, beloved children, image of God people who didn’t die, because they were treated the same. I can’t even come up with a suitable metaphor for how theyContinue reading “Life & Love”
A Sunday reflection for Trinity Sunday. The lectionary readings are here. In my parish, we are reading through the Bible in a year using the reading plan from BibleProject (please, check out their videos, blog, and podcast!). We’ve talked about how our human desire for power and control is the same now as it wasContinue reading “As We are Created”
It feels like forever since I posted something and in fact it has been a couple of months since I wrote anything beyond my sermon or a Sunday reflection for the weeks I’m not preaching and I haven’t even posted my sermons for the past few weeks. I’m not sure of the reason, except perhapsContinue reading “It’s been a while …”
In last week’s post, I spoke of remembering the beginnings of this blog because of where I was. This week I’m remembering because of another succession of violence. Not shootings or actual physical violence but verbal violence and the threat of physical violence. In a news broadcast late last week, there were two stories: oneContinue reading “Words”
When we want to respond in anger, we have the choice to be kind. When we want to respond in hate, we have the choice to be compassionate. When we want to respond violently, we have the choice to love. We can choose to see competitors or beloved children of God walking this amazing journey as our companions. Good morning, Y’all. I don’t know about you but I’m really struggling with maintaining my focus on God’s peace these days: feeling it, offering it, abiding in it. There just seems to be a pervading atmosphere of agitation and aggression. Are you feeling it, too? Our world is saturated with ‘fight’ talk. When we doContinue reading “Armor”
Hey, Y’all. How’s your coffee on this fine Tuesday? More importantly, how are you?Can I share with you that I am just completely perplexed at the world right now? Not so much over what is happening – the pandemic, the huge influx of migrants at the southern US border, the collapse of Afghanistan, not toContinue reading “A Trendy Revolution”
In the light of the extraordinary picture of God’s Kingdom that we’ve been exploring through Matthew’s telling of the Good News Story of Jesus (See Matthew 5-7), can we take a moment to talk COVID19, vaccines, and masks? I know we are all so weary of this conversation but it is the reality in whichContinue reading “How Would Jesus Love?”
God is always with us whether we see God at work in this world or we choose not to. When we choose to see God in everyone at all times and in all places, we learn to see through the eyes of compassion as Jesus sees and our worldview is interrupted.
