Jesus came to proclaim the Good News that all are beloved children of God, invited and welcomed into the Kingdom banquet to share in the abundance of God’s Love and Mercy. This is the message we are to proclaim with our lives, not only when folks walk through our church doors but every moment of every day.

All In
A Sunday Reflection*:The readings for the twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost are here. When you hear the word abundance, where do your thoughts go?When you hear the word enough, where do your thoughts go? In the reading from Mark’s telling of the good news story today, Jesus and the disciples are on the campus of theContinue reading “All In”
Don’t Miss Out
A sermon preached at Grace Episcopal Church, San Antonio, Texas. The lectionary readings for the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost are here. I have a confession to make, well, I guess it’s a necessary confession by the world’s standards because apparently I’m breaking the rule of “must haves” so I admit it, I have an iPhoneContinue reading “Don’t Miss Out”
Remembering
Jesus calls each of us to find our safety and security in our relationship with God so that when the tragedies of this world happen, we remain in the normalcy of God’s kingdom, following Jesus.
Normal isn’t something behind us but us behind Jesus, following him, walking the Way of Love always.
A Well Balanced Meal
Jesus’ words are intended to challenge us and provoke us to rethink all that we think we know. Many people, through the centuries to today, decide it’s easier to walk away because the teaching is too difficult, letting a desire for comfort and ease overrule the innate need to be with God.
Distractions
A sermon preached at Grace Episcopal Church, San Antonio, Texas. The Lectionary readings for the ninth Sunday after Pentecost are here. Since I introduced Mark’s version of these two stories last week, instead of retelling of the gospel reading with my usual artistic license and occasional dramatic flourish, I want to share with you aContinue reading “Distractions”
Knowing Firsthand
Good morning, Y’all! As we continue our conversation about Jesus’ sermon as given to us in chapters 5-7 of Matthew’s telling of the good news story, Jesus has framed the purpose of God’s law as a means of compassionate and loving relationships for the greater good of everyone and now he offers some specific examplesContinue reading “Knowing Firsthand”
Interruptions
God is always with us whether we see God at work in this world or we choose not to. When we choose to see God in everyone at all times and in all places, we learn to see through the eyes of compassion as Jesus sees and our worldview is interrupted.
Laws of Relationship
Good morning, Y’all! How is your week shaping up? We’ve had so much rain lately and the very last thing I want to do is to complain about it, but it sure has been nice to have some sunshine these past two days! It really does wonders for my mood. I pray that your coffeeContinue reading “Laws of Relationship”
In Contrast
The stories Mark gives us about Jesus’ teaching and ministry are just the beginning of the good news. And we are the continuation of that story; we are still living in God’s story. We are the instruments through which God reveals the Kingdom on earth so that others see a different way to live, the life we are all created to live.
