Hello! I’m so glad you’re here.

Mother Nancy’s Coffee Thoughts is a space for thoughtful, prayerful reflection on how our theology is lived. Theology isn’t just what we know about God—it is how we live because we are in relationship with God.
Together, we are on a lifelong journey of growing into who God created us to be, learning to love, serve, and lead others in the way of Jesus.
This blog grew out of years of prayerful reflection, pastoral experience, and a deep conviction that the Church—and the world—desperately needs leadership shaped not by power or position, but by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Why I Write
I write because words matter. The language we use shapes and forms us, just as God spoke all that is into being.
I write because I want the words I’ve found to describe a Jesus-shaped life to help others discover a deeper, more faithful way of following Jesus—in everyday life and in leadership.
Christian leadership today is often shaped by models borrowed from business, politics, or culture. While these models can be helpful, they are incomplete on their own and, at times, antithetical to the way of Jesus. Our holy Scriptures offer us something different: an incarnational, servant-hearted way of leadership embodied by Christ himself.
Here, I explore questions such as:
> What does leadership look like when it is truly shaped by Jesus?
> How does theology inform our daily decisions as priests, pastors, and ministry leaders?
> And for those who work outside the Church, how does theology shape our work, family life, and daily routines?
About Me
I am a Christian writer and theologian exploring Jesus-shaped leadership and faith that works in ordinary life.
I write from within the Christian tradition, drawing especially from biblical theology, pastoral experience, and spiritual formation (my own and years of walking with others), as a priest. I am ordained in the Episcopal Church, having come to the Episcopal Church when I was a young(er) adult from a different denomination. No denomination gets it all right and I hope that whatever your tradition is (or even if you don’t have one) that you will feel welcome here, be able to receive what is helpful and leave what isn’t.
Mother Nancy’s Coffee Thoughts began as a personal theological journal and has grown into an ongoing conversation with readers who, like me, wrestle with faith, leadership, and discipleship in a complex world.
I am currently writing a book on Jesus-shaped leadership, which brings together many of the themes explored on this site.
